32. The Tleilaxu Intrigue and Hwi Noree

God Emperor Of Dune — Résumé 🇺🇸 English

Moneo enters the chamber of the God Emperor Leto with considerable agitation to report a troubling discovery. He reveals that the Tleilaxu assisted the Ixians with a cellular restructuring experiment shielded from Leto's powers, resulting in Malky emerging from the chamber with an infant years earlier. Moneo quickly deduces that the new Ixian Ambassador, Hwi Noree, is connected to this plot and offers to send her back to Ix immediately. Leto refuses this suggestion, noting that Hwi is the polar opposite of Malky, and instructs Moneo to visit the Lady Hwi and reassure her of his kindly intentions. As their conversation continues, Leto shifts the topic to Siona, ordering Moneo to ensure that she receives a package delivered by a Guild courier without any interference. This prompts Moneo to express his deep-seated anxiety regarding the spice melange. Although Leto defends the necessity of melange for the Guild Navigators and the Bene Gesserit, Moneo fears the psychological burden and the overwhelming flood of ancestral memories it brings to the Atreides bloodline. Leto acknowledges Moneo's choice to abstain from the spice while pondering the nature of human choice and societal structure. Before dismissing his major-domo, Leto offers an unexpected piece of advice concerning drug knowledge and the biblical story of Eve and the apple. He points out that Adam was actually the first to sample the fruit and shifted the blame onto Eve, using the anecdote to illustrate how societies structurally rely on subgroups. When a bewildered Moneo asks how this historical interpretation is supposed to help him, Leto explains that it will assist him in managing his upcoming interaction with Lady Hwi. Moneo ultimately departs to carry out the God Emperor's commands.
